Duncan Ongeng earned his Bachelor of Food Science and Technology Degree from Makerere University in 2000. Following this, he served as a research apprentice with the National Agricultural Research Organization in Uganda. In 2004, he achieved a Master of Science in Food Technology from the University of Leuven in Belgium, subsequently joining Gulu University as a Lecturer in 2005. Duncan furthered his academic journey, obtaining a PhD in Bioscience Engineering from the University of Leuven in 2011. His dedication and expertise led him to the positions of Senior Lecturer and Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Environment at Gulu University in 2012, with a subsequent promotion to Associate Professor in 2016.
Throughout his career, Duncan has made significant contributions, publishing numerous scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals and managing various research and development grants. Notably, he successfully oversaw a 1.3 million euro grant aimed at enhancing agricultural research and training capacity in Gulu University, funded by NUFFIC, the Netherlands. As the Dean, he played a pivotal role in implementing the Student-Centered Outreach Model and the Agribusiness Innovation Model at Gulu University within the Faculty of Agriculture and Environment. Duncan Ongeng’s journey reflects not only his academic achievements but also his impactful leadership in advancing agricultural research and education.
